Queen Margrethe Not Going to Chile in March

Her Majesty the Queen is due to osteoarthritis of the back and on the advice of his doctors decided to cancel the royal couple's planned state visit to Chile on 10-15. March.

The doctors believe that the long flight combined with the demands and expectations to implement a state visit, in the current processing situation will be too stressful for the Queen to complete.

The royal couple has instead asked HRH The Crown Prince and HRH Crown Princess spearhead an official visit, where most of the already planned program shall include Santiago, Valparaiso and northern Chile.

About 50 companies participating in the visit, one of the main objectives is to strengthen trade relations between Chile and Denmark in particular in the areas of agriculture and food, fisheries and aquaculture, mining, energy and environment and health.

A versatile cultural program is an important part of the visit. Asger Jorn exhibited at Chile's oldest and most prestigious museum, the Museo de Bella Artes, as this year's exhibition. In connection with the visit established literary meetings between Danish and Chilean poets, and children's literature are included in the program.

Denmark is known as a pioneer in Chile on human rights. In this context, organized by the Chilean Commemorative Museum and the Danish Institute for Human Rights, a joint conference on human rights education.

The official visit will finally bring the royal couple to Paranal Observatory in northern Chile, ESO (the European Southern Observatory) flagship astronomical, and where Denmark is longtime contributor.
